Selfies are small individually and endless collectively: 14 tries for one profile picture, all kept. Here’s how to delete selfies on iPhone in bulk without nuking the good ones.
The quick answer
Open Photos > Albums > Media Types > Selfies to see them all grouped. Select in bulk for obvious junk, then do one keep-the-winner pass for the rest: one sharp, well-lit photo per moment. Odoa’s selfie filter turns this into a 5-minute swipe session, entirely on-device.
Step 1: Open the Selfies album and clear the obvious junk
- Open Photos > Albums.
- Scroll to Media Types and tap Selfies.
- Tap Select, then slide your finger across rows to select fast.
- Delete closed-eyes shots, motion blur, and accidental front-camera opens first.
What this gives you: the easy third of the pile gone in two minutes. What this does not give you: decisions on the near-identical good ones. Ten similar selfies aren’t “duplicates” to iOS — see how to delete burst photos on iPhone for why.
Step 2: Keep one winner per moment
This is where the space — and the sanity — actually comes from. For each cluster of similar selfies, keep the sharpest, best-lit one and delete the rest. One decision per photo, full-screen, no menus: swipe right to keep, left to delete. That’s the whole camera roll method applied to one album.
Tip: compare eyes and lighting, not poses. The difference between selfie #6 and #9 is never the pose — it’s focus and light.
Step 3: Empty Recently Deleted
Everything you deleted sits in Photos > Albums > Recently Deleted for up to 30 days, still taking up space. Clear it to finish the job — walkthrough in how to clear Recently Deleted.
Why this is worth doing beyond storage
Selfies don’t just eat megabytes — they bury everything else. Organizing them out makes finding old photos and organizing into albums dramatically easier. One clean pass here pays off everywhere.
The bottom line
Selfies album for the bulk clear, one-winner pass for the similar shots, Recently Deleted to reclaim. Keep the photos you’d actually share; delete the 13 drafts nobody will ever miss.
