You handed over the phone for one game. You got back 300 photos of ceilings, 47 selfies of a chin, and a 40-minute video of a pocket. Classic. Here’s the 5-minute reset.
The direct answer
Open today’s photos, bulk-select the black/blurry/burst junk and delete, keep 2-3 funny keepers, check for giant accidental videos, then empty Recently Deleted. Done before the kid notices the phone is back.
What to do now
- Videos first. Sort today’s haul by size — pocket videos run long and heavy (video triage). One 40-minute clip can be 8GB.
- Bulk the obvious. Black frames, motion blur, pure floor: Select, swipe across rows, delete. Same pass as blurry photo cleanup.
- Keep the keepers. Save 2-3 genuinely funny ones to Favorites. The chin selfie is art.
- Empty Recently Deleted (steps).
What not to rely on
- Lecture + hope. Next handover produces 400. Use Guided Access (Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access) to pin the phone to one app — triple-click to lock before handing over.
- Deleting from the camera roll one by one. Too slow; batch-select or swipe-finish with the camera roll method.
The problem
Kids shoot volume, not intention: 10 frames per second of thumb. Mixed into your roll by date, the haul buries real memories under noise within hours.
The bottom line
Five minutes, one Guided Access toggle for next time, zero guilt. The keepers stay favorited; the floor collection goes to the trash where it belongs.
